This week’s #FloodlightFriday caper comes to you from North of the border with Airdrie’s long running Only The Lonely issue 7 from September 1990 with The Diamonds and The Blue Brazil pootling along in the Scottish Second division. A regular feature in the zine was “Go with Garson” when someone clearly called Garson used to review grounds around the lower league circuit in Scotland. Yes, yes this is every bit as good as it sounds.

This week we find our cuddly curmudgeon visiting the beautiful kingdom of Fife from the tourist hot spot that is North Lanarkshire and at first sight he is not happy about it although it does allow him to get a slight in against the home of local rivals Albion Rovers (whose flood lights came from Cardiff Arms Park by the way)

As was the way with fanzine photos it paints a bucolic scene with the Central Park (aka The Racewall) floodlights clearly visible above the “main” stand. Wikipedia helpfully tells us that the “Floodlights were first used in 1968, in a match against Celtic. Central Park was also used for greyhouns racing and Speedway. It became a stock car racing track in 1970, and has since hosted several world championships.” Below is your proof along with said floodlights in action.

Mr Garson soon warms to his task, the joys of being able to walk all the way around the “ampitheatre” are celebrated as is the survival of the ground despite serious safety concerns inside and on the approach. Ray Bradbury short stories don’t often get a mention in fanzines, in fact this is the one and only time we’ve seen that so well done Mr Garson, wherever you are. Brilliant work.
