April 1993 and Wycombe are enjoying the Martin O’Neil wind in their sails, about to be promoted to the promised land of the football league with a non league double to boot. You’d think all would be hale and hearty in the Wanderers world but that’s without considering the Taylor report..Let’s delve into issue 7 of The Adams Family

Straight to the floodlight this week or as you’ve come to expect from this blog, a grainy black and white image taken at the other end of the ground. What I love about this photo is that though we’ve managed to find 100% of one floodlight, the 50% of the massive power pylon a few yards away dwarves everything else. Yes I know they were demonstrating the magnificence of the wide open Woodland terrace spaces and it’s a great fanzine photo commemorating terraces WITHOUT crush barriers. Non league writ large and even better, including some bloke bending over looking at something in the distance. A classic.

The piece is passionate but not exactly persuasive, surely the seats wouldn’t alter the view that markedly compared even to the Hillbottom end. In any case it’s not as if there is a long history of memories of great matches here…they’d only moved into Adams Park in 1991!!

As for capacity, Wycombe still only attract about five thousand on average a decade on and after a sustained period of stability/success. The space would be converted into the “massive” Frank Adams stand in 2006 (all seating obvs) so perhaps they should have been more worried about naming routines to come. Yes Frank Adams deserved some publicity but ADAMS PARK! Surely the Woodlands stand would have been a better name. It looks lovely nestled into the woods from the hill opposite but rather less so from close up at ground level.

I’ll include the article on the back cover about left backs for a few reasons. Primarily it’s just a great piece that only fanzines can produce and record, a rough eight year history of Wycombe left backs, brilliant if you are researching the history of Wycombe left backs 1985-1993..

..there is more though, of course Stuart Cash went to Chesterfield!! After a middling time at Saltergate (believe me, VERY middling) Stuart returned to Wycombe in 1994 after 29 games at Chesterfield but failed to make an appearance for the Wanderers this time, perhaps he just didn’t like Wycombe?! His two sons play professionally…Matty being the better known.
